Paper
Chinese legend tells that the new invention of paper was presented to the Emperor in the
year 105 AD by Cai Lun. The craft of papermaking relied upon an abundance of bamboo fibres
to produce a fine quality paper, the papermaker uses only the traditional materials and
methods to produce fine art paper. The myth - there was no actual evidence that Cai Lun was
the person invented the paper when he presented the material to the Emperor, the record only
showed he presented the paper; but he was a key figure in the invention.
Printing
The Chinese invention of moveable type, credited to Bi Sheng in the year 1045 AD. Movable
type of printing technique was first invented by Bi Sheng of the Song dynasty between the
years 1041 and 1048. This invention was recorded by his contemporary Shen Kuo which recorded it
in his Dreampool Essays. During the 13-14th centuries, the agriculturist Wang Zhen made an
important contribution to the development of movable type printing.
